Now that we’re in the grip of January’s THIRD cold snap which is again plunging us into the frigid depths of winter, it does, indeed, seem like a never-ending season of ice and snow. I’ve been thinking about the movie “Groundhog Day,” and although I’m not happy about the cold temperatures, I can’t help thinking about the speech Phil Collins gave at the end of the movie:

“When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn’t imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.”

If it has to be winter, I’m thankful for my family, my friends, my pets, and my current manuscript to keep me company. I’m sitting here with my laptop to keep me warm, with a kitten snuggled against one hip and a small dog snuggled against the other.

Joy!
